Dear Duchesne
Hi! I’m Evelyn from Sangsan High. I’m happy to say that I’m a first-year and I’ve finally started to enjoy school stuff. My first 6 months of school was - literally horrible. Things got much harder in high school compared to middle school, and the hours I have to study have definitely lengthened. To keep up with my studies like Maths and Physics, I have to get up at 5 in the morning! Though I’ve been doing this for like 5~6 months (since I’ve got into Sangsan High) I think it absolutely sucks and I’m still getting used to it. (Not trying to sound mean, I really am, but there are some roommates who just can’t hear their alarm at the right time and I get up instead nearly all the time. Something that gets me annoyed loads of times right now I guess?)
One thing that I’ve tried for the first time in my life (in March when we entered high school) is that I’ve joined a football club (aka ‘The Standard of Shooting’) and managed to score a few times! When I first entered here I thought that here people would do nothing but study real hard but now I know it’s nothing of the sort! A great number of us girls do soccer, netball (not entirely sure if that’s the word for it), dodgeball, basketball and etc… Our class (and it’s Class 6) won the Sports Day Match for dodgeball and cricket! (A bit of luck followed I guess) I’m dying to know what sports American high school students play.
To tell you the truth, I have never been to US so I absolutely have no clue about what it’s like to live as an American. Do you guys have extra studying hours (that’s mandatory)? What kinds of place do you hang out with friends after school that you prefer? I’m all ears! When we search for a place to hang out, we usually look for restaurants (perhaps an Italian one or a Japanese one) or go and try out a café. Recently I’ve tried tiramisu a few times! It’s definitely one of my favorites. Do try it (but I think you have already, so you can ignore what I’m saying right now)! The sooner, the better.
I think perhaps the one and probably only way we can share something in common is to talk about Netflix..? Dudes here in Sangsan literally LOVE Netflix. They watch Korean dramas and movies, and some of the dramas my friends enjoyed watching are ‘Our Beloved Summer’, ‘Goblin’ and ‘Sky Castle’. I know some of these are quite old but all the same they are brilliant. Not to mention some movies! I’m a big fan of the Korean movie ‘Little Forest’. But I like creepy genres too! Um… maybe the movie ‘Cabin in the Woods’? I can’t say that I have understood what the movie was trying to say 100%, but it’s interesting. (Though this one can be… dunno, somehow weird?)
I’ve said a lot (and I mean A LOT) of things here, and give a round of applause to yourself cause you’ve managed to read through this stuff! It must have been a really hard time for you. Apologies. Even if you skipped some parts - thanks anyway!
I hope to get a reply back…? Maybe…?
Yours
Evelyn
PS
I’ve tried my BEST to make it as OK as possible. Dunno if it that was fine!
