Dear Arlington High School Student,
My name is Seho and I am a student at Sangsan High School. I am 16 years old. Because this is my first letter to a foreign student, I’m very excited. Actually, I’m now litte bit confused about my age. Since Korea is one year old from birth, my age in Korea will be a little older than my age there. Also, Korea and America have different educational systems, so even students of the same age have different names for calling them. I’m a freshman in Korea but I will probably be a sophomore in America.
First, I want to tell you a bit about my life as a student at Sangsan High school. First of all, I want you to know that our school is a private school. This means that our school is little different from other Korean schools you may know. I usually get up at 6:30 and get ready for school. I just brush my teeth and change my clothes and go to eat breakfast. The breakfast is served at our dorm’s first basement level. I usually eat cereal, but there are many different foods. After I finish eating breakfast, I go to school. Then the time is usually 7:10 am. Then I start my self-study. Because our school teaches so many things, there isn’t much time to self-study. At 8:00 am, the class starts. All classes are 50 minutes long. And there is 10 minutes break time between all classes. We have eight classes a day. We have 4 classes before noon. And we get lunch between 12:00 to 1:20. After eating lunch, there are 4 classes and the last class ends at 5:10 pm. Then, we eat dinner until 6:30 and return to class. After coming to class, we have a self-study time until 9:20 pm. Self-study time isn’t literally ‘self’ so many students hate this time. Then, we have a break time until 10:00 pm. This time is an oasis for students. They usually go out and eat snacks. Then we do self-study again until 11:20 and go to the dorm. Because of this hard daily cycle, many students are high-key tired. Is there any self-study time in America after school?
You may wonder how students endure this hard daily life. Most students relieve this stress through their hobbies. For some, it could be a game, and for others, it could be soccer. And my hobby is dancing. These days, after watching the TV program “street man fighter”(it’s a dance competition program) on youtube clip, I started to practice the dance of “new things“ of Zico. When I can’t dance because I don’t have much time, I usually listen music. I listen a great number of music genres (hip-hop, ballad, pop song, etc.) but I especially prefer hip-hop. It makes me feel energetic and I like the fast beat of it. I am a big fan of Eminem and my favorite hip-hop song of him is ‘Rap God’ and ‘Godzilla’. I recommend you to listen these music when you are depressed and sad. How do you relieve your stress? And what is your hobby?
I am looking forward to your response. Please tell me about your daily school life!
Best, Seho
p.s. The picture is the picture that I took at our school. In our school we can see beautiful sky almost everyday, and I really like watching it. Isn’t it beautiful?
