Dear Arlington High School Student!!!!!
My name is Yoo Hyeon Park and I am a first-year student at Sangsan High School. I'm 16 years old. (In the Korean age system, I'm 17) Recently, we, sangsan students, are preparing for our upcoming important exam. Thus we have a very busy life. How about you? Are you in your test period? Or else?
As Sangsan High School student, I have a busy life. Every 6:30(even on the weekend!!!!) our dormitory(we have dormitory) wakes us up. But, to take a shower, I tend to wake up at 6 a.m. Then we have breakfast and go to school. When we go to school, we have 8 classes and, of course, we eat lunch at 12:30. Our school routine is done at 5:10. Then we have dinner straightly, and after having dinner, we have a short free time. During my free time, I usually buy some snacks, drinks, etc. After free time, we have Self-study time(Self-study only in words and compulsory in fact...) We start studying at 6:30, and the study is done at 9:20. From 9:20, we have a short free time again to 10:00, and after that, we have dormitory-study time to 11:20. We can sleep after this last study time. Before sleeping, many students watch some videos on YouTube, either I do. What do American high school students usually do before sleeping? Do they study to meet the insufficient study?
Whoa, it's a very tight schedule, huh? To stay happy in this tight schedule, I should have some hobbies to enjoy as a pastime activity. From now on, I will tell you about my hobby. My recent is listening to music because it isn't constrained by place, or time at all. To introduce my music taste, I prefer some alternative rock music such as 'Radiohead', 'Arcade Fire'. Also, I am a high-key big fan of the rock band 'Red Hot Chili Peppers'. I heard that they were going to issue their new album this October, so I suggest you hear that album. Recently, I also start to listen to some Hip Hop music. Still, I don't know well about Hip Hop culture, but I can tell that their music is powerful. Their message often makes me think about our society. What music do you prefer the most and why? Let me know. I want to know what students of America, the world's largest music market, prefer.
The time has come to finish the letter, so I'll ask what I have wondered about American High School students. I learned how the American school exam and student assessment system works in English Conversation class. In Korea, many students think that tests are necessary though they always suffer from the agony of studying. But, in America, isn't there quite different from Korea? In that different academic environment, how do average American High School students think about exam? Do they see it as a necessary system or a faulty, inefficient system? What do you think about this? It would be nice if you would answer this.
