Dear American High School Students ,
My name is Hogeun Lim and I am a 1st-year student in Sansan High School. I’m 17 years old in Korean age and 16 years od in American. If it’s hard to pronounce my name, just call me Pogeun, Mogeun, Bogeun and whatever ends with “-ogeun”.(This is how my close friends call me and they even change the first letter every time). I’m writing this letter to tell you about my daily school life and how Korean high school students live their lives. I chose to enter my high school as I wanted to experience various events and achieve my dream and I think it will be one of the most special events to write a penpal..! I’m so excited to send my letter to peers in a foreign country! I hope you can enjoy my stories
What time do you usually get up on school day?? For my case, during my weekdays, I always have to get up at 6:30 am in the dormitory. When dormitory teachers wake us up, they play songs. After entering high school, I listen to new songs as a wake-up song and thanks to it, I’m narrowly keeping up with the trend these days. Among the songs I listened to in the recent mornings, I personally liked After Like - Ive !. If you have some time, I recommend listening to the song! It’s so catchy and addictive Are there any songs you recommend?
After waking up from the bed at 6:30, I go to school at 7:45. The first period starts at 8:00 and we have 8 periods a day. Each period is 50 minutes and between periods, there is a 10 minute break time. So, the regular school curriculum ends at 5:10 and when mandatory self-studying ends, it becomes 11:20. As I’m done with my work, I go to bed at midnight. It is quite tiring to keep my daily routine but with my friends, I can deal with stress and be happy during the day.
The time of day I like the most is when I finish my self-studying in school, 9:20 pm. After self-studying, I enjoy walking around the playground.(I prefer night time to day time so I like to walk around it at 9:20.) Our school’s playground is the biggest and most natural-friendly playground I have ever seen.(It also has small ponds and lots of koi fish.) As I walk around the track, I can relieve my stress a lot. Also, it’s so interesting to make use of Stellarium - an application for showing maps of stars - and figure out what the planets and stars are. These days, we can see Jupiter and it is far brighter than others. I suggest that you use Stellarium when looking up at the sky! What do you do to deal with your stress?
In Korea, test season is coming.. In 1st grade in high school, we take regular school tests four times a year and country-run examinations four times as well. What I am working on now is the mid-term school tests and I use most of my time to study for that. Most first-year students are stressed out preparing for the school exam. Because of that, I’m working hard and waiting for the day when the exam is over so I can play freely. Where do you get motivation when you study?
After I graduate from high school and enter college, I would like to go on a trip across the sea. Is there a place or city where you enjoyed your trip? I will be so glad if you let me know
I'll be so appreciate if you tell me about your story! I look forward to reading your response!! Thank you
Best,Hogeun
