Dear American high school student,
Hi! My name is Chi-Hyeong Han(it’s difficult to say, right?) and my English name is Chris. This is my first time doing penpal so I’m not sure what to do but I have a lot of questions for you, so I’m gonna ask you a lot of things. Before I ask a lot of questions, let me introduce myself, I’m a first-year student at Sangsan High School. My school, Sangsan, is one of the most famous schools in Korea, because our students study very well, except me lol. The ‘Sangsan’ means ‘mountain of elephant’ and my school has dormitory, so I sleep and eat in there. At 6:30 am, all dormitory students must wake up. But we sleep later than 12:00 so it’s very tired so we sleep again(called re-sleep) until 7:30! And we also sleep again in classes lol. My nickname is ‘Beanpole’(<- is that right?) because I’m very tall in Korea. Do you have any nicknames or something?
Anyway I like sports, especially soccer, also baseball. You know what, I’m a big fan of LA Dogers!(I’m sry you guys are in east side, right?) I’ve been to LA for little bit long, and I saw the Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon but I’ve never been to any east side of USA so I wanna go there as soon as possible. In Korea, New York is like a ‘Dream City’ so I want to go New York so much!(and your school as well) How is your daily life in New York? Are there yellow cabs?
My English teacher said we have to take 4 words in this penpal, so I’m gonna use it now(I think it’s better than press them in letter by force and others gonna do like that, so I want to be different) In our class, we learned ‘High-key’ and ‘Low-Key’ so can you give some examples for me to understand? It’s hard to understand in Korean. And what’s the difference between ‘recommend’ and ‘suggest’? In Korea, both ‘recommend’ and ‘suggest’ have same meaning. Yeah, done:)
Question time!(there are already many lol) Mostly is it comfortable that your mother tongue is ‘world language’? In Korea, all students have to study English. It’s so hard and boring for me… so I always think, ‘If I was born in America, would English be easier for me?’. And I wanna ‘speak’ real English well. Our Korean students are good at grammar and reading, but almost everyone doesn’t good at speaking. Next, how is your daily life in high school? I think it’s quite different from here, so I want to know. Also I want to know what you are studying know. We study mathematics, sciences(physics, chemistry, life sciences, earth sciences), Koreans, social studies, English, AI etc. I think you guys also study mathematics, sciences, social studies, so I want to know other interesting subjects that you learn in school.
This is the end of my letter.. I’ve written so much that I’m worried that you think it’s boring. But I’m very happy when you read my letter and I get your response! I’m looking forward to your letter(you can ask me whatever you want!!)
Your sincerely, Chris.
P.s. I also put our school’s picture I tookJ

Hello Chris (Chi Hyeong), My name is Trey Almquist. My Instagram is @treyalmquist and I’m a photographer. Our class does not live in New York, that was the class that had backed out and now we all are your pen pals with you and your class. All of us go to school in a small town in Nebraska. We go to Arlington High School with only about 600 students total in all of our grades. My class has about 45- 60 people that I will graduate with. So that answers your question about New York and that I don’t live there. I do not play any sports, although I take photos for our school's football and wrestling team. So I am kind of involved with sports in the photography part. I don’t have any nicknames that people call me. Anyway, with your question about high-key and low-key. High-key means something like not gonna lie, or something like that. I’m not sure how to word it haha, but it is like if someone says “dang, I want them shoes.” You would say “I high-key want them shoes.” But low-key is easier to explain since I use it more than high-key. Low-key is something along the lines of you want to do something. So it would be used “I low-key want to do that.” As in playing soccer or baseball. Recommend and suggest is the same thing here in the states. For example, if someone says “I suggest that you change this in your writing” , `` Recommend means the same thing as suggested. As I am typing this it is 6:45 PM, or 18:45 24-hour time, while it is 8:45 AM in South Korea. Almost everyone in the United States uses standard 12-hour time. Not sure what format of time ya’ll (you all) use. All of you are 14 hours ahead of us which I think is crazy to think about. Our school has pretty much the same classes, we have 9 classes a day and we all have different teachers for each learning subject. From my first class to the last class goes: World History, Lifetime Activities which is pretty much a gym class, Geometry, Biology, and then 5th period we have an Advisory class which is a mess around class. It is only 15 minutes long, then I eat lunch and after lunch, I have pottery so I get to make clay pots and everything like that, then I have a study hall where I can do my homework, then a woodworking class where I can build stuff like desks and small tables, then finally I have English which is the class that I have to type to you! My favorite class is Woodworking. It's my favorite because I like to be outdoors and so I fit in with building things just like trial and error. We start school at 8:05 AM and get to leave school at 3:30 PM. If you lived in the United States, your English would be way better. It would be just because you're around it and it’s the main language that a lot of the people here speak. And it is harder just because it's a foreign language so you're not going to be the best if you haven't always been around it. Obviously haha. I have some questions for you now, what is it like living in a dormitory and not being able to see your parents throughout the weekdays? Personally I think that I wouldn’t be able to do that just because I am close with my parents and I am pretty much always with them. Since you live in the dormitory while you're at school, I saw that there were I believe 3 beds in the dorm. Can you live in the dorm by yourself, or do you need to live with your friends? And a follow up question with that is how do you get your food? Do you go to a store/ grocery market and get your food before the week starts? Or how does that work? Also do you have any siblings? If so, are you able to live with them and your friends in the dorm you stay in? (Again, my main Instagram account is @treyalmquist and my photography account in @treyalmquistphotography. It’s just my name with photography at the end!)

Hey!! How are you today? sry for my late;; I should reply more quickly I'm sorry. By the way, I'm in my home this week, because there will be a BIG test in our school. In Korea, there is a test called '수능'that we have to take to go to the university. I've heard you guys have similar test called SAT. Our 19-years-old students in Korea take the '수능' on November and they go to other schools to take the test. So, our school is also one of them, we have to get out of the school, and we cleaned our classes, and get to online this week. It's quite bothering because we have to pack up all our textbooks, workbooks, clothes. But I think our 19-years-old students are deserved it. And later, I gonna be the one of them. Anyway, I'm very excited because I'm in my home!! And answer to your Questions, first, our dorm is far away from my house. So it's quite hard to see my parents in weekend(It is possible, but it take lots of time) Second, we live with 4 or 5 siblings. The beds are 3 but two of them is bunk beds. And that is our harsh point. In a small room, with one bathroom, we live with 4 more sibling;; I wanna go to NewYork too, but I saw the Hawaii on TV, and I thought it would be perfect living in Hawaii!! Have you been there? If so. How was it? and do you have any places that you want to be?
