Dear Winston Preparatory school student
My name is Jeong Ho Byon and I'm a first grader in sangsan high school. Sangsan High school is located in Jeonju(southern part of south korea), but actually my home is in Seoul(the capital city of south korea) so I live in dormitory during semester. It is quite unfamiliar and sometimes inconvenient to make a living in dorm(because it’s a bit old), apart from home, but as we can sleep and have meal in a stable manner, I guess it serves its purpose.
I’m writing this letter to introduce you about my daily life in Sangsan high school. Students in dormitory must sleep at 12 am and at 6:30 am, wake up and do morning roll call. After roll call, a lot of students go to bed again(we call it re-sleep), but it seems like time wasting to me, so I go to school right away. During the workday we have 8 classes and 8th class ends at 5:10. Then, after having dinner, we keep studying until 9:20 at school and one and half hour more in the dorm. It may seem a bit boring, but you know studying is a duty of high schoolers and we can also sometimes find happiness in that routine.
We learn comparatively less subjects to America, but much harsher relative evaluations score our grade. In addition, many students here are good at studying and have passion, so we should study literally fiercely to earn a good grade. Among a number of subjects, Korean, English, and Mathematics are regarded high-key important than the others. For me, English is the most interesting subject. In fact, in the Korean English education system, reading and listening skills are emphasized far more than speaking and writing abilities which I think deserve the equal interest. On the other hand, Math is the most difficult subject to me.(actually to most students) Therefore, I’m trying to improve my math skills recently.
After staying in school for half of the day, we move to study hall. But before that, I often run on a track to exercise and manage my physical strength. Actually, it is one of my hobby and one that I actively practice. I do have other hobbies such as playing violin, singing, playing basketball, listening to music and watching TV show. However, as I entered high school, the only hobbies judged to be proper to do are listening to music and jogging. Also I like watching youtube videos, but on workdays, we are busy, so I binge watch youtube videos when the exam is over or on a leisurely day.(It’s TMI but I’m a big fan of an entertaining show called ‘Running Man’. What is your favorite show?)
Nowadays, since the midterm is just around the corner, I’m studying for the exam. I hope to get a good grade on the test and also I look forward to a moment of relaxing and leisure when the exam is over, though a great number of tests still remain to be taken until the college entrance exam called Suneung.
Since I’ve never been to America, I hope I can visit America someday when I'm available at least in college. What place do you recommend to go when I travel to America?
I look forward to seeing your response soon!
Sincerely,
Jeong Ho
