Dear American High School Student,
Hi, my name is Yoonseo and I am 16 years old. I attend Sangsan High School in South Korea. Sangsan High School is an autonomous private high school and only students who got good grades in middle school can apply to this school. Thus, there are a great number of students do well in school.
Through this chance, I’d like to tell you a little bit about my life as a student in South Korea. After entering high school, I have been living in a dormitory on campus. At first, I was worried that I would not be able to adapt to the new environment, however, my friends helped me find my feet soon. So, now I think the dormitory as my second house. How about your school life? As this is my first time to write a letter to an American student, I am so elated now!
From now on, I will introduce my daily life at Sangsan High School. While most of other schools starts at 9:10, our first class begins at 8:10 and the last class ends at 17:10. So, I need to wake up earlier than I used to. I prefer life science to other subjects because I have read lots of books about life science so I have been interested in it since I was a child. Therefore, I am going to choose a department related to life science. What is your favorite subject? If you don't have any, I suggest that you think about what you are interested in in advance.
In nowadays, I am preparing for the mid-term exam. Almost all high schools in South Korea apply a nine-grade system when evaluating students. A nine-grade system refers to the method of granting a rank rating for each subject by utilizing the percentile rank of subjects completed by students. It is very difficult to get good grades, as there are a lot of students who have excellent academic ability in my school. For this reason, many students often get stressed about it. Whenever I get stressed, I listen to music. I like all genres of music, but especially I am a big fan of pop music. My favorite artist is Justin Bieber and I love his music so much. What is your favorite artist? And do you have your own way of relieving stress?
Ulthough there are lots of difficulties, I love my school life. How about your school life? I am really curious about the difference between American and South Korean school life. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Yours sincerely, Yoonseo
