Dear American High School Students,
I am glad to have an opportunity to write a letter to you in English. I think you might be interested in knowing what a high school student’s life in Korea is like, so I would like to share my story of my school life in Korea. I feel a bit awkward writing a letter in English because it's my first time doing it, but I will do my best. Even if there is an incorrect sentence grammatically, please be understanding of this. I hope you enjoy reading it.
I am Seo-hyun Park and a first-year student at Sang-san High School. I live in a school dormitory with 4 roommates. The set routine of my dormitory makes me so tired. Following the rules, I have to get up at 6:30 in the morning to attend my classes. The classes start at 8 o’clock in the morning and finishes at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. After the classes, I stay at school until 9 p.m for study. When I come back to my dormitory after school, I study again until 11 o’clock at night. During the examination period, we have increased study hours and this makes me unhappy and more tired. When the exams are over, I feel like a prisoner just released from prison. I think the sooner all exam ends, the better my life will be. I hope that your school life is better than mine.
Although I seem to be complaining a lot about my school life, there are good things as well. I can spend all my time with my friends at school and my dormitory. Wherever I go and whatever I do here, I am always with my friends and we do almost everything together. My friends and I help each other to study and other things even if it is a trivial thing. For example, I am not good at mathematics, so I get help from friends who are good at it. Oh! By the way, mathematics is regarded as an high-key important subject in Korea as well as English. Though I am not the best at both subjects, I believe that I will be good at those subjects someday.
I am actually good at Korean and Korean Literature. I love reading and writing novels. When I have a spare time, I spend time reading novels. Do you know the Korean writer, Han-gang? I would like to recommend her books, which were translated into English. The title of one of them is “The Vegetarian” and another one is “Human Acts”. Both books are so good. However, I prefer the book, “Human Acts” to the book, “The Vegetarian”. If you haven’t read any of those books yet, I would like to recommend these books to you.
It was not a special story, but I hope you enjoyed my letter.
Best regards,
Seo-hyun.
