Dear my new friend
Hello! My name is Dongyoung. I’m a first-year student at Sangsan High School and I’m 16 years old. When I was young, I lived in Seoul. But since I entered Sangsan High School, which is located in Jeonju, I have been living in Jeonju. Most of our high school students live in the school dormitory and so do I. This picture is the beautiful scenery of our school
Now I’ll tell you about my daily life as a Sangsan High School student. At the dormitory, the morning call song is played at 6:30 and all the students take the roll call. After the morning roll call, I usually go to bed again and sleep until 7:30. After I wake up, I need to get ready in a hurry and go to school. There are 8 classes every day and each class is 50 minutes. The first class starts at 8:10 and period 8 ends at 5:10. When do your school classes start and end?
After very long classes, students are given self-study time at night. In Korean, it is called 야자, and a great number of students hate studying more at night. Though its name is a ‘self’ study, it’s actually a ‘compulsory’ study! To make matters worse, students have to do additional self-study after 야자 because our school is a dormitory school. After endless studying, all the students go back to the dorm and get ready to sleep. I always feel so tired, so I fall asleep as soon as I go to bed. Does your school also have some extra studying programs? If so, what do you do there?
My school life may seem completely filled up with study, but I actually have an interesting hobby. While I am studying, I always listen to my favorite music. My favorite genre is Korean Ballad. Some of my friends prefer pop music to ballads, but I really love the Ballad genre. The best song I’ve recently heard is ‘There has never been a day I haven’t loved you' by Im Chang Jung. Im Chang Jung is a very popular ballad singer in Korea, and I'm a big fan of his. I can feel his emotions as I listen to the music, which makes me touched. What kind of music do you like the most and why? I also want to know who your favorite singer is.
There are 23 days left before the midterm exam, so I’m really studying hard recently. I high-key want to get good grades on the exam. When do you start studying for the exam? What do you think is the biggest difference between Korean high schools and American high schools? Are there any Korean students in your school?
I’ll look forward to hearing from you soon!
