Dear American High School student,
Hi, my name is Hyunjin and I am a first-year student at Sangsan High School and I'm 17 years old. I'd like to tell you about my school life in Korea. My high school is located in the city named Jeon-Ju. I originally live in Jeon-Ju, so I can live at my house but I live in a dormitory with my friends. Because living in a dormitory is easier for me to go to school and saves much time. A great number of students lives in a building, almost every girls in the school. Also it's so much fun living with my friends! Does your school have a dormitory?
I usually wake up at 6:00 A.M. The morning call rings at 6:30 but I wake up earlier to get ready for school because it takes so much time for me to get ready for school. I take a shower, get some make-ups done, and eat breakfast with my friends. All student should come to school before 7:55. And I usually arrive at my classroom at 7:50. Our first class starts at 8:10 and the last class ends at 17:10. My schedules are different everyday so it is hard for me to memorize what class comes next. I heard that American schools' schedules are same everyday. Am I right? Anyways, my favorite class is English! What is your favorite class? Does your school have any special class you want to tell me about?
Nowadays, third-year students are preparing for the big exam called 수능(suneung), similar to the SAT or ACT. They study really hard for this exam because it is only offered once a year. And sadly if you get bad grade on this, you cannot get into a prestigious university. It's a really important exam. I was surprised when I heard that all airplanes must not take off when students are taking English-listening test!(It's noisy when an airplane takes off, and the noise might make students be distracted.) First and second-year students are also getting ready for a test. We take four tests a year, two times in one semester.(We have two semesters a year.) I really hate these test. They are so stressful for me. The sooner the test is over, the better! I don't want to study.
Tomorrow we have a Korean barbecue party for dinner because 수능 is D-50. We will eat barbecue and play some games. I can't wait for this! My favorite is pork belly. I recommend you try this. It's so yummy. Is your school meal tasty? What kinds of food do you eat and what is your favorite? I really want to visit New York and American schools. It looks amazing. And I'm a big fan of pop musicians! Recommend me your favorite song.
I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely, Hyunjin
P.S. So many stray cats are living in the apartment in front of my school!
My school's chairman loves pine trees. So beautiful!
