Dear American high school students,
Hi! My name is Eunwoo. I am 15 years old and I am living in South Korea. I’m first grade student in Sangsan High School. I don’t have girlfriend and I like playing soccer games with my friends at school. My hobby is watching dramas. I’m really a big fan of Korean dramas. What kind of hobbies do you have?
Our school is a boarding school, and it is little different from general high school in Korea. Now, I want to introduce subjects we learn in our school. Our school usually has 8 classes every day. In first grade, we learn 16 subjects in a week. There are major subjects, non-major subjects, and career subjects. How are the subjects separated in your school?
In major subjects, there are Math, Science, English, Social studies, Korean language. We take a test with these subjects and they have the biggest influence when calculating grades. It is because they are considered important subjects in college. I like math and science, but I prefer math to science. How about you? What is your favorite major subject?
In non-major subjects, there are History, and second foreign language. We also take a test with these two subjects, but they are less important than major subjects. I feel a little sleepy when I take a history class. Some of my friends say that history is like a novel story and that history class is interesting. How do you think about your history class?
In career subjects, there are Philosophy, Music, Art etc. We don’t take a test with these subjects. I attend these classes passionately. Especially, I high-key like P.E class; I always wait for P.E class to play soccer. A great number of students will participate in the school soccer game, and I am going to compete as one of the representatives of our class.
There are our school’s special classes, too. Reading discussions and research presentation classes are examples. I feel a little nervous when I present. What do you recommend for me decreasing nervous? What do you do when you are nervous?
I look forward to reading your response soon!
Best,
Eunwoo
