Dear Duchesne Academy Omaha student
Hello. My name is Yerin and I’m 1st year student in Sangsan High School. Fortunately, we got opportunity to write a letter to American student(specially you) in English class, so now I’m writing to you. I’m so exciting to introduce our school and exchange cultures! I hope you feel the same as me.
In Korea, to enter a high school, it doesn’t require any tests. But our school has its own tests(Math, Logics, Comprehension, and Personality) and only a few schools require report card. What about America? Is there any process to enter high school?
After enter high school, it is the start of infinite study hall(it’s like a hell..). We start our first class at 8 am and the class continue till 5 pm. After listening lectures we have dinner and then study again. We have to study ourself at 6pm-9pm, we call this time self-study time (actually we are monitored by teachers..). What is your school schedule? What time does your school start class?
In our school, we have various kinds of party. We got track meet in May, Korean barbecue party in June and September, and our own party Kailai. Kailai is like an prom party. We set a concept(for example if the concept is Harry Porter, we should wear like a magician and we drink butter beer), and manage booth. It can be food booth or game booth whatever we want. I heard that’s incredibly funny, so I’m looking forward to it. What’s your school’s party? I’m so curious!:-)
Lately, we started preparing our mid test. Usually few students start before 1 month or 3 weeks(I think the sooner is the better). In Korea, there are two big ways to entering university. The one is called “수능(Seu neung)” which is similar to SAT(I prefer to prepare 수능 rather than to 수시). It takes just one day in a year, so it is really really hard. A great number of students attempt re-수능 to enter better college. Another one is “수시(Seu si)” which is up to 3 years. To apply 수시, we have to prepare reports, and portfolio. It takes 3 years, which means it focus on sincerity(our school is recommended because of 수시. We got many programs to fill portfolio perfectly). What about America? I wanna enter American college if I can!
It was so funny to introduce my school and Korean system of college. And also I’m excited to receive your response! Lastly, do you have instagram ID? I wanna share my ID! Mine is @seoy_erin. If yuou want to exchange your ID, I hope you to write yours in your letter and follow me. Good bye!
