Dear Duchesne High School Student,
My name is ShimEunwoo and I am a 1st grade student in Sangsan High school. I am 17 years old(In American age, I am 16 because my birthdate is 2006.09.14!) girl who loooves listening pop songs! I have lived in North Carolina for about 2 years when I was 1st grade in elemetary school. I am very excited to explain Korean high school student’s life in Korea.
Our school is a bit special in a way that it’s high-advanced school just as yours. Sangsan high school is in Jeonju which is far away from Seoul, where I live. I live in Seoul, right in front of coex and jamsil sports complex. Since our school has dormitory, I am staying in Jeonju right now. With a song(student get to suggest the song for morning), we wake up at 6:30am. Then school starts at 7:55 and ends at 5:10. The school time is made up with 8 classes(each 50min.), 7 breaktime(each 10min.), and lunch time(about 80min.). Then we have night self-study time in classroom starting from 6:30 to 9:20. Lastly, we have dormitory self-study time 10:00~11:30 and all the lights turn off at 12:00. This is the breif explanation about our school routine and in weekends, unlike other dormitory schools, we are free to go anywhere from 6:30am~10:00pm. This is quite awesome!! If we want to go to home, we usually go out to train station before Friday night self-study time.
Korea school is very different from USA school because we have our own homeroom, so there are lockers, own desks, and own supplies all in a homeroom classroom. Also almost 99% of Korean high school wear uniforms but I heard that your school wears too! Korea schools usually end later than USA schools are, and there are no school bus because the place students can live if they are attending to the school is so limited that we can walk or take public bus.
Our school students are very very high-key in tests. We stay up all night to study for few days, we drink lots and lots of coffee and energy drinks(monster, red bull..), some wake up at 5 am to study. I sometimes feel overwhelmed when I see those who are literally paying their life for this.
To talk about myself, I am 173cm tall! Girl in this height is quite rare in Korea. I love sports and starbucks(I prefer chai tea latte/People in Korea usually just gets the menu as it is written in board, how do you give order in Starbucks? Do you add new ingredients? What’s your favorite combination?) I also love youtube(I don’t have netflix account yet…so I watch summarized clip in youtube instead), instagram, BlackPink(I am about 5 year-old blink), pop songs(I am now listening to ‘memories’ by conangray while writing this), and sometimes studying…? I want to know about proms, dating(like how much do you guys get serious in to relationships), studying(I heard there are several chances in a year to take SAT. We only have once…), life after school, beauty routines, and how Kpop is known like to high schoolers(we have at least 2 people who are a big fan of about Kpop, and most students have interest about new Kpop songs).
Hope to get your respond soon!
Love, Eunwoo
