Dear Francis Lewis School Student
My name is Dong Geon Kim and I’m a sophomore at Sangsan High School. I’m glad to have the opportunity to introduce my school life to you!
First, I want to introduce the special thing about my school. Sangsan High School, the school I go to, is a school where excellent students from all over Korea gather. So, if you want to get good grades here, you have to put a lot of effort into your study. (Although there are bad grades even if I try hard sometimes.) In my school year, we can’t choose the subjects we prefer, so I’m looking forward to next year when I can select them. Is your school class an optional course or a fixed course?
Now, I will introduce my dormitory life. A great number of students at Sangsan High School live in dormitories because most of their homes are not in Jeonju, where Sangsan High School locates. For this reason, we do not meet our family often and only stay with our friends. (Of course, some students go home every weekend.) What do you think about this dormitory life? Do you think it’s good? Of course, there may be difficult things, but I'm high-key satisfied with dormitory life because it reduces unnecessary waste of time.
These days, during the exam period, many students are concentrating on studying for the exam, so I rarely play with my friends, but during the non-exam period, I eat out, play soccer, and chat with my friends. I relieve my stress by playing with my friends like this! There are so many things I want to do after this test, but the most I want to do is to eat delicious food with my family. It’s a secret, but I’m a little tired of eating only school meals. What kind of delicious menu does your school meal in America serve?
The ultimate purpose of our high school life is to do well on the test called 수능(suneung) and go to a good university. High school students in Korea, including myself, are very stressed because of this test. Do students in your school get stressed from tests, too? And if you know how to reduce this stress, can you recommend it to me?
I look forward to reading your response soon!
Sincerely, Dong Geon.
