Dear American High School Student,
Hi, my name is Jung Seungbin and I am a freshman at Sangsan High School. I am 17 years old in Korean age but 16 years old in international age. I was born in Seoul and now I don't live in Seoul (because my school is in Jeonju, not Seoul, and I live in a school dormitory in Jeonju alone). But my family and my house are in Seoul.
It takes about 2 hours from Seoul to Jeonju by train, but the reason why I came to Sangsan High School is because college entrance exam grades of Sansan are so good. The most important part of the entrance examination system in Korea is the 수능(Suneung). The 수능(Suneung) is a test similar to the SAT and ACT in the United States, an important test that most students in Korea have to take to go to college. Unlike SAT and ACT, the 수능(Suneung) is held only once a year, and many students are making great efforts to go to the university they want at this time. However, due to the difficulty of the test and the psychological burden, they sometimes fall into a sad situation where they fail to meet their expectations. I wonder what the SAT and ACT in America are like.
Then this time, I will introduce my life at Sangsan High School. A great number of students at Sangsan High School live in dormitories, so their lives are very regular. The wake-up bell rings at 6:30 and I have to get ready and go to school by 7:50 p.m. In my case, I have a rule to wake up at 6:15 and go to school early after I finish washing my body. At first, waking up early was tiring and hard, but I think I'm adjusting little by little. (But I'm still tired.) Do you have any easy tips on waking up early in the morning? If you have one, please share it.
Our school has a total of eight classes, and the first class starts at 8:10 and ends at 5:10. After all classes, many students go to dinner right away, but I often do sports, which is my hobby. Sometimes I enjoy soccer or basketball, but I usually high-key prefer running and working out. I like sports very much and I'm good at it, so when I work out with my friends, I act as trainer and enjoy it together. Also, using my experience as a representative athlete in Seoul, I am trying to do various training routines and exercise hard as well as study hard. I suggest you to train running if you like working out. Maybe it's because I'm a track and field athlete, I'm a big fan of Usain Bolt. What kind of sports do you like? Who is your favorite sports player??
(The guy on the far right is me!! How do I look??)
After dinner, we start studying again by 11:20. After this extra study, we go to the dorm to sleep. I always lie down on my bed and look back on my day to fall asleep. This is my day at Sangsan High School. It feels different after organizing my day. Now I'm curious about your daily routine. How is life in American high school?
Best,
SeungBin
