10914 Yang Sung Hyun

Dear American High School Student,

Hi, my name is Yang Sung Hyun and I’m a first-year student in Sangsan High School. There is one more friend in my class who has the same name as me, and they joke around by calling me 'real Sunghyun' and other Sunghyun 'fake Sunghyun'. Our school has a great number of students who are good at studying. But they are really fun like playing with nicknames so school life is not boring.



Most of our school students live in dormitory. I high-key like dormitory life! Talking with my friends and being able to be with them all day makes me happy. Sometimes there are arguments or disagreements, but we apologize right away and try not to cause conflicts. Do you want me to introduce our school life more? We get up at 6:30 every morning and go to school by 8. And I have a class until 17:00. After class, I eat dinner and self-study from 18:30. After about 3 hours, I study for 1 hour again after I come back to the dorm and go to sleep at 12 o'clock. Doesn't it look like it's going to be really hard and boring? I've been living this life for six months, and it's still so hard. But I am overcoming it with the joy of talking with my friends and eating delicious food. There is a convenience store in my school, but it is only open during recess. So the sooner you go, the better. You can buy the food you want and not be late for class. How do you relieve stress about studying? Exercising? Listening to music? Talking to friends? I'm really curious about your overall school life and what you do in your free time.

I usually exercise or watch highlights in my free time. I like basketball, baseball, and soccer, and I also like football, which is very unfamiliar in Korea. Do you like football the most? I looked up your school and it was in New York. I'm a big fan of the LA Rams, but I don’t think you would like Rams. What kind of sports do you like and which team do you support? I'm curious about the cheering culture of America and the atmosphere of the stadium.



I listen to a lot of songs. I listen to almost all genres of music such as Korean ballad, Korean hip hop, American hip hop, pop, etc. My favorite artists are Post Malone, Imagine Dragons, and Eminem, which singer do you like? Can you tell me about a famous song or singer in America these days?



There are 22 days left until the midterm exam. As I said before, it is not easy to get good grades because there are many excellent friends in my school. But I'm doing my best and studying without stress. I think you must have a lot of stress, but I hope you think of ways to overcome it and never give up. I introduced the life of a high school student in Korea so far, and I want to know the life of an American student.
