Dear, American student
Hi, my name is Dae-Yeon(and you can call me just Dan). I've never done such things like this before, and it is really curious and interesting. I don't know what to say, so to simply start with a self-introduction, I am a freshman at Sangsan high school, the dormitory school, and I like movies, so I am interested in American culture. My school is very great in Korea, and every day I feel that my friends here are really smart, but honestly, there are lots of difficulties and bad things. (For example, the cafeteria is too small for this great number of students.) Especially the dormitory is the worst. But still a great school.
To simply introduce my daily schedule too, first I wake up at 6:30 am, eat breakfast, and go to school around 7:30. First class starts at 8:10 and the last class(the 8th period) finishes at 5:20 pm. From 6:30 to 9:20, I have an evening self-study. After that, I go to the school library and have a dormitory self-study from 10 pm to 11:20. (I don't understand why they call it a 'dormitory' study', even though we don’t do that at the dorm.) Lastly, I go back to my room, get a night roll call at 11:35, and go to bed at midnight. After I write it down, it little bit looks so dense, but there is more time to rest than you think, and if get used to it, you will feel it's not too bad. First of all, each lunch and dinner time is an hour and 20 minutes, so I usually play catch and watch movies during that time. (If it's not the examination period.) There is also some time after self-studies. I don't know American schools, so I wonder how they are. How school life is, how you study, what you do after school, etc.
As I said above, I really like movies, so when it's not exam period, I study cinema and do schoolwork at the same time. Especially, I love Spielberg, Scorsese, and Coen brothers films, and in the series, I am a big fan of Star Wars. I heard that Star Wars is very famous and popular in America. I heard it became almost a myth. I wonder if it’s real and how it is. Because it’s too unpopular here. I can’t imagine how it can be. Also, I don't know whether I'm in a position that I can recommend, but I recommend you <Inside Llewyn Davis>. It’s the Coen brothers’ film, and I really enjoyed it. It’s one of the best movies of my life. It's a bit TMI, but I like American films more than European films. Because I prefer ones with well-organized stories to with artistry images like paintings but sacrificed stories. Also <Star Wars: A New Hope> is the reason I started to love cinema. Sometimes I think that I want to live in America because I want to go to America and make films later. To do that, I need to know about America well… but unfortunately, I don't.
Nevertheless, I'm not going to go to a movie-related university. First of all, like most of the students in my school, I hope to go to medical school and I really want to be a doctor. To be a great doctor is one of my dreams too. I know it sounds weird. It must be difficult, but I don't think it's totally impossible these days. That's why I'm studying movies and doing schoolwork together from now on. Of course, I study hard, and whenever I have time, I watch classic movies and read books to study cinema. I try to do my best but that doesn't mean I know a lot about movies. Because It hasn't been that long since I started studying cinema 'seriously'. Maybe I need to try harder.
To talk a little bit more about my other hobbies, I like to play baseball. I sometimes play catch with my friends when I have time. Actually, I prefer watching it to doing it. Unfortunately, I barely know about MLB because I only watch Korean baseball. To give you a little excuse, MLB has so many leagues and it seems complicated, so it's hard to get into it. I also like reading books. It's too bad that I don't have enough time to read because of my studies. And I like writing. Writing is almost my only strength. Of course, I'm not that bad at studying, but I'm not that good at it too. Anyway, I like writing, so I'm posting about movies and Star Wars on my personal blog. (But I can hardly post now because of exams.)
Well, after writing it down, I think I just listed what I like. Thank you for reading my poor English and it was funnier than I thought. I'm looking forward to your answer. Bye.
Sincerely, Dae-Yeon
