Dear American High School Student,
Hi! My name is Sam and I am a first-year student at Sangsan High School. What is your favorite hobby? My favorite hobby is listening to music. One of my favorite singers that I listen to often that you might know is Bruno Mars. I especially like his ballad song “When I Was Your Man,” or his r&b style song “Versace On The Floor.” What is your favorite singer? I’m so excited to write this letter to you!
In Sangsan High School, a great number of students live in dormitories. Well, I live with three other roommates who are all nice and hilarious. School life is fun, but I often miss my family.
To share my daily life, I wake up every 6:30. (morning call rings at 6:30, but some prefer to sleep longer. I wake up when the morning call rings) After getting ready for school, I eat breakfast at about 7:10 and head right to school. Our first class starts at 8:10 and the last class ends at 5:10. Schedule consists of 8 classes, each 50 minutes long. So at the end of all classes, my brain is already burned up! How do you feel when school ends?
After school, dinner starts at 5:20 till 6:30. Most of the time I eat at the school cafeteria, but when the menu is poor, I eat outside the school. I usually eat ramen or hamburger. After having dinner, we have a time called “Evening Self-Studying.” But unlike the name of it, it is mandatory and all students need to participate. It starts at 6:30 and ends at 9:20.
At 10:00 starts another mandatory self-studying till 11:20. During 9:20~10:00 students usually head back to the dormitory to take a short rest or head outside the school to have a small appetite (such as ramen). I prefer heading right to the library to start some early studying. On the whole, students in our school are mandatory to study for 4 hours and 10 minutes. Do American schools also have this time?
These days, students prepare for their mid-term exams (Only 3 weeks left!!). I high-key hate studying, but since I got a poor grade in 1st semester, I’m trying really hard to make up my grade. Are you stressed about your grade too?
After all these schedules are done, I head back to the dormitory where I can finally have a rest. All students are required to sleep at 12:00 but I usually watch youtube till about 12:30.
I hope the midterm exam is over. Once the exam is over, I’m looking forward to going to karaoke with my friends to sing my favorite songs. Since I haven’t been to New York, I also want to visit New York! What places would you recommend when I visit New York?
